What is Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback training is health and fitness at the highest level…because it all happens in your BRAIN.

Do you want to FEEL better, THINK better, WORK better, SLEEP better, LEARN, REMEMBER or even PERFORM better?

Well it all starts in your brain!

Some people throw medications at the brain (neurotransmitters), some go to therapists to get a load off their mind bit they get STUCK, or hire a trainer to push them around; but with neurofeedback (also known as EEG Biofeedback) we can show you what your brain is doing and how to regulate and balance itself with NO MEDICATIONS AND NO UNWANTED SIDE-EFFECTS!

And when the brain is calmed, regulated, and stabilized, symptoms and issues begin to melt away and life becomes more manageable.

It is personal training for YOUR BRAIN, SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR YOU because no two brains are alike.

Now how do we know what to do and what part of the brain to train?

Do you realize that psychiatrists and psychologists are the only doctors who don’t take a LOOK at the organ they are treating?

And how would you know unless you look???

That’s what we do… we put a special cap on your head that has sensors built into it giving us detailed measurements of the activity in every part of your brain. We can actually watch (and can show you) your brain in 3D on the screen and give it information through feedback to make its own adjustments and work better. In fact, people usually experience some benefit within the first couple of sessions and if compliant with appointments and supplementary life coaching recommendations, usually measurable improvement in 10 sessions!

How can that be?   How does it work?

Ok, here’s the scientific explanation:

  • Mental states can be “defined” by the EEG.
  • Certain brainwave patterns correspond to common disorders or syndromes.
  • Both animals and humans can learn to alter their brainwave pattern(s) by means of operant conditioning with EEG biofeedback.
  • Both animals and humans show changes in behavior when they have learned to change their brain wave frequency patterns by means of operant conditioning.
  • Brain mapping using 19 active electrodes can help distinguish psychiatric syndromes.

  • Brain maps using 19 active electrodes can demonstrate communication patterns between different parts of the brain. Statistical comparisons may demonstrate too little or too much communication between areas of the cortex. This is especially useful in head trauma, stroke, brain surgery cases, etc.

Neurofeedback-Brain-Mapping

The approach is to do training that normalizes the EEG…it often results in resolution/relief of symptoms and issues caused by underlying brain wave disregulation.

***At Edge NeuroFitness, we do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe, but we can hook someone up to our very high tech instrumentation, identify EEG patterns, then let the brain work it out through biofeedback.

We also do coaching in areas of lifestyle such as exercise, nutrition, stress management, time management, and other environmental factors that affect brain health. We all have various skills and experience in holistic health related fields.

Is there something you want to work on?

We simply hook you up and let your brain work it out!!!

This training is completely non-invasive with no medications and no unwanted side effects!

Want more focus now?
Do you need some relief?
Want to achieve your Peak performance?

This is a top-down approach to health and wellness, taking it to the highest level to the brain that’s why I call it NEUROFITNESS

TRAINING!

We have something for you!

It is brain exercise. We observe your brain in action from moment to moment by monitoring your brainwaves.
We show you your brain activity and we help you change it by rewarding shifts toward a more functional and stable brain state. It is a gradual learning process.

It is also referred to as EEG Biofeedback or Neurotherapy. The electroencephalogram (EEG) is another name for the brain wave recordings and, in this context, biofeedback refers to the process by which you learn to change your brainwaves and hence change your control of brain states.

How can Neurofeedback help?

This type of training improves attention, cognitive abilities, and emotional regulation. It can help to reduce or eliminate a number of common symptoms such as anxiety, stress reactions, depression, sleep problems, headaches, migraines, and emotional distress. It can also help relieve a variety of conditions such as mood swings, PMS, and organic brain disorders including seizures, stroke, and traumatic brain injury.

This method is training in self-regulation. Good self-regulation is necessary for optimal brain function. Self-regulation training enhances the function of the central nervous system and thereby improves mental performance, emotional control and physiological stability.

Does this system cure symptoms or conditions?

In the case of organic brain disorders, it is just a matter of getting the brain to function better rather than curing the condition. In the case of disregulation there really is no disease to be cured. Where disregulation is the primary issue, self-regulation is likely the remedy. But the term cure again would not apply.

Who can benefit from this powerful method?

Individuals of any age can benefit from EEG training. It can help a variety of childhood problems including bed wetting, nightmares, attention deficits and other forms of disrupting and disturbing behaviors. This system can assist adolescents who might struggle with anxiety and depression, or drug and alcohol use. This method can help maintain good brain function as we age. And peak performers use EEG training to enhance their abilities in sports, business and the arts.

What happens if Neurofeedback clients are taking medications?

With successful brain training, medications targeting brain function may no longer be needed, or they may be needed at lower dosages, as the brain takes over the role of regulating itself. It is important for clients to communicate with their prescribing physician regarding Neurofeedback and medications.

If this method can do so much, why haven’t I heard about it before?

It is not yet taught in most medical schools or psychology graduate programs. Many professionals are therefore unaware of the power of this technique. The field is growing rapidly and as it does more professionals will be informed and educated in this powerful system.

Therapeutic Applications

The following are thumbnail summaries of this method applied to various conditions: (text from eeginfo.com)

Autism

Right now autism looks like a very complex disease, but at least it is now clear that it is in fact a medical disease and not just a genetically caused mental disorder. But if autism is looked at as a disease, it must also be acknowledged that diseases in general tend to look complex only when they are not yet understood. If one looked at diabetes, for example, without knowing that insulin was involved as the key player, it would also look exceedingly complex indeed.

ADHD

Neurofeedback for ADHD

It has been shown in one Canadian study that more than 85% of ADHD children no longer benefited from stimulant medication after using this system. With continued advances in training protocols, this percentage may well approach 95%. On the other hand, the focus is always on obtaining better function, not on getting the children off medications.

Aspergers

Recent advances in protocols have given considerable impetus to work with Asperger’s Syndrome. The advantage here is that the person at issue may in fact exhibit considerable intellectual gifts, which can be helpful in using this method. Training for this condition involves a primary focus on emotional regulation, with a secondary focus on anxiety (worry) and obsessional features that may be present. Other non-verbal learning disabilities may also be present, and these may require specific attention.

Peak Performance

brain-training

There are many people for whom good brain function is critical, but the objective has largely been
achieved through conventional means. The concert pianist trains brain function through the tireless practice of his craft. Tiger Woods continues to hone his skills with great diligence. But what does the diplomat do who has to function in critical negotiations after changing six time zones? What does the surgeon do when he is roused out of deep sleep for emergency surgery at three in the morning?
What does the aging commercial pilot do when he confronts his re-qualification test in the simulator?

Research

Neurofeedback Research

For many, this method has only recently been “discovered” but it has been around for decades. Over the course of years, literally thousands of research studies have been done that have proven Neurofeedback’s power in addressing a variety of disorders ranging from epilepsy to autism to migraines to ADD/ADHD.
